PAPEETE, TAHITI

Today has been a sort of a sea-day. I say ‘sort of, because we’ve mostly been at sea, arriving at Papeete, on the island of Tahiti, in French Polynesia, at around 6pm. We will be staying overnight, and all day tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the internet has once again been turned off, so I’m rather hoping there will be some decent wi-fi in the cruise terminal at Papeete.

In between walks around the top deck this morning, I popped into the Entertainments Office to ask about classes, and when we might be starting up again. A lot of people keep asking me the question, to which my answer remains the same – keep looking in the daily programme. The good news is that Art Classes are due to resume on the 8th, after our visits to Papeete and Bora Bora. That’s going to make a lot of people happy. In preparation for that, Tracey and I spent some time in the Craft Studio this afternoon, giving the brushes a deep clean.

At 4pm, we attended an Escort Training session in the Shorex Office. Tacey and I have both escorted on shore excursions many times, so we know the ropes and then some. As with many of these sort of things, however, a change in company policy requires us to attend and sign a form to confirm that we have attended, and understand our duties and obligations when escorting tours. In fairness to Edie, who ran the session, she made it short for us, acknowledging our prior experience, and allowed us to be on our way so that she could give the more in-depth training to a couple of staff members who had never done it before.

It’s become a bit of a running joke that every time Tony the Cruise Director announces an event on the open deck, it rains. True to form; at around 6pm, as we picked up our pilot to ttake us into Papeete, when there should have been a sail-in party, the heavens opened. Quite spectacularly, in fact.

With the rain persisting, any thoughts of popping ashore for a walk after dinner were soon put aside. We have to be up early in the morning, for escort duties, so it’s an early night for us…
