Pantomime Time Last night we were treated to the Ship Panto - Jack in the Beanstalk. Think of every awful amateur production you've ever seen; forgotten lines, shaky scenery, missed cues, roll them all together and you have a rough idea of what it was like. The thing is though - because it was so awful - it was BRILLIANT!!! And one of the most hilarious things I've seen in a long time. One has to remember, of course, that all those taking part were crew members and have extremely busy jobs to do, so the task of learning lines and attending rehearsals is really no mean feat for them, but the result was just an absolute joy! Last night, Bert off my dining table came to see me about a certain photograph, taken by one of the professional photographers on board (the same one that took his tripod with him to Rhodes and wasn't allowed to photograph anywhere). This photo was one of our table, taken, I think, just before Christmas (could have been Christmas Eve). No matter; when it was taken is not important; what is important is that it is a lovely group photograph. Occasionally, one of the photographers will wander through the dining room at dinner time and take shots, which we are told will appear in the display cabinet near the photo shop and can be purchased for a fee. Anyway, when I saw the photo appear in the cabinet, I decided I'd quite like a copy of it and promptly went into the photo shop to order one. When I was told it was going to cost me £9.99, I nearly changed my mind! But, hey - why not. I told the group about my order, and several of us mentioned that they would also be interested in having a copy, but had yet to see it in the display cabinet. We joked that they probably only had the one copy but when I picked up the photo yesterday and showed it to them, everyone agreed they would like their own print and made a note of the serial number with which to place their order. Last night, Bert told me he'd been to the photo shop to order his own copy of the photograph and was told, no, he couldn't do that - COS THEY ONLY HAD THE ONE PRINT!!!!! These are professional photographers folks! When Bert said that he really would like a print for himself, the photographer said to him; if he could borrow the original photograph (off me), they'd happily scan it and print off a copy for him - the very same photograph that they've just charged me nearly 10 quid for!!! Outragious! Surely, you'd think that they'd have a copy of the photo - it's all digital afterall. And it's a GROUP PHOTO. Is it not likely that they're going to get more than one order for it? Really though. Huh? It's Thursday morning, and we are currently sailing upriver, towards Lisbon in Portugal. There's thick fog at the moment, so we're having to take a slight diversion and pick up the Pilot from a different location, which is going to cause a knock-on delay of about half an hour. This afternoon, I'm escorting my last tour of the cruise - into the mountains, which will include a wine-tasting - brilliant - I started the cruise with a wine-tasting, and finishing with one!
