Showtime! Oh, the thrill of the exhibition, the mingling crowds, the rustle of cash and the murmur of appreciable onlookers. I just love it when a plan comes together. I've never had such a fast turnaraound in exhibition terms. I turned up at the Britannia Lounge at 1:15pm, had to haggle with some stewards to remove 4 large crates containing the Christmas decos that they took down last night, and get me a table, then feverishly blu-tacked about 40 student paintings up, 6 of my own and a handful of original sketches. The thing is - it looked terrific! All of those students who had reluctantly contributed paintings (reluctant because they didn't think they were good enough) agreed, proudly, one and all that the fruits of their labours looked fantastic when they they were all hung together, and the mingling crowds were more than pleased. At 10 minutes to 2pm, people started arriving, and for a full 50 minutes, it felt great; the note in the Daily Blurb had brought in the crowds - I sold several books, a few prints, a couple of original paintings and a sketch - fantastic! By 5 minutes past 3pm, all paintings had been removed, blu-tack mashed into a lumpy blu-tack ball, and as they prepared to bring in the stuff for Afternoon Tea, you could have been forgiven for thinking it had never happened! It felt like selling pictures illegally, on park railings, and scarpering quickly cos the rozzers are coming! What a brilliant end to the trip!
