<\/a><\/p>\nOur pottering eventually took us into the town proper, where we spent some time walking around another, smaller park and browsing the craft stalls there. We sat and watched some brilliant street musicians for a short while, walked along the busy promenade and finally ended up at a small Spar supermarket, where we were able to purchase the items on our shopping list.<\/p>\n
One of the things that we’ve been pleasantly surprised with, on the Magellan, is the introduction of kettles in the cabins, so one of the things we wanted to stock up on was some decent coffee and tea-bags. We also needed some bin bags for our dirty laundry, and four large plastic bottles of water. You may be wondering about the water, but having made this trip several times before, one of the things that we’ve learnt is to buy our own water. Not that there is anything specifically wrong with the water on the Magellan, of course, but once we reach Brazil the water sources never seem quite so trustworthy…<\/p>\n
Madeira never fails to charm me. Every time I visit there, some improvements have taken place, whether it be in the quayside area or the main drag. The morning had started out overcast, but by the time we caught the shuttle bus back to the ship, the sun had come out, and the temperature was steadily climbing.<\/p>\n
Lunch was a cheeseburger and chips on the open deck, the long trousers have finally been replaced by three-quarter-lengths, and the trainers have been replaced by open sandals. This is our last but one stop before heading East towards Brazil; we have two days at sea (two classes), which will be followed by a stop at Mindelo in the Cape Verde Islands.<\/p>\n
