A reasonably unremarkable day was made only slightly stressful by the ‘Perspective’ art session (perspective is always troublesome) and a minor misunderstanding over the Amalfi Restaurant’s lunchtime arrangements. We were told that, because the Amalfi was not being used for lunch, it would be okay to leave the art stuff out after the morning class, in readiness for the afternoon class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having retired to our cabin after the first class, therefore, it came as a bit of a surprise to receive an urgent telephone call from Ronaldo (the assistant cruise director) passing on a message from the Amalfi’s Maitre De asking the art gear to removed as soon as possible because they needed to set up for lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the second class we retired to the ‘Living Room’ on Deck 5 for a well-earned beer and a bowl of crisps (small pleasures n’ all that\u2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the evening, after dinner, we were on our way back to the cabin when the Captain announced that there appeared to be some early signs of aurora activity. Needless to say; we don’t need to be told twice. We dashed back to the cabin, grabbed our cameras and coats and – once we were fully togged up – headed out onto the deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there they were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the best part of an hour we paced the upper decks, where it was extremely cold and windy, but above us was one of nature’s greatest shows\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is just a small selection. I took over 50 photos in all, and a small amount of video (which was less successful). Word on the aurora app is that tomorrow night might be even better…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
