Yesterday, first classes were their usual chaos, with only one minor incident of note. Considering our issues regarding the number of available kits, and a need to try and make them go as far as we can, and considering the fact that I’d communicated all this to the group in the morning, and asked them to bear with us as we attempt to do the impossible, I was left speechless when one man stood up from his place at a table before we started, announced that he wouldn’t be staying, and demanded a second kit so that he and his wife could ‘paint in the cabin’. I tried to explain that this wouldn’t be possible, and that the kits were only for guests attending the painting classes. He disagreed, telling me in no uncertain terms that, yes, he could do this – he’s done it before – and before I could stop him, he literally snatched the kit that was in my hands and departed the room. As I say\u2026 I was speechless. We know that the practice of turning up to classes just to claim an art kit so that they can take it back home for the grandchildren goes on, but never quite as blatantly as this. I have no more to say on the issue (because I’m still fuming about it\u2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other news; this morning we caught a great sunrise and the sailing has been somewhat bumpy. A complaint has been made by the head staff in the Amalfi about scratches on the tables, accompanied by photographic proof. After this afternoons class, I was able to identify the table in question, which isn’t one that we generally use (and certainly didn’t use yesterday, when the photo must have been taken), so hopefully that’s been nipped in the bud\u2026 we’re not guilty. Tonight was the first of three formal nights, and the clocks go forward, in preparation for our arrival in Cadiz, in Spain, in a couple of days time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
