<\/a><\/p>\nToday, we arrived at Parintins, or to be more precise; we dropped anchor in the river, alongside Parintins.<\/p>\n
Because the place doesn’t have a quayside big enough to take cruise ships (or it might be because the river is too shallow there), folks had to be taken across to the town in tender boats.<\/p>\n
Parintins isn’t a very big place, but it is noteable for a popular folklore festival held there each year in July, called Boi Bumba. A spectacular, hour-long show, offering a glimpse of some of the music, costumes and dances featured in the festival, is performed as an exclusive treat for visiting cruise ships. It’s a fantastic show (Tracey and I saw it a couple of years ago), and therefore a very popular excursion, and as such, the job of getting everybody who has bought a ticket ashore, in time for the show is a massive operation.<\/p>\n
At breakfast, it was raining, and knowing that there would be certain times when the tender boats would be full of Boi Bumba passengers, I made an executive decision. It being Sunday, and the fact that I’ve seen pretty much everything there is to see of Parintins the town (which isn’t a great deal – particularly on a Sunday), I decided to remain on board ship and do some painting.<\/p>\n
And so, my cabin became my art studio, where I remained for most of the day, emerging only at lunchtime to eat before returning to paint all afternoon.<\/p>\n
