This morning, we arrived in Havre St Pierre.<\/p>\n

I have to say that when you get a large number of consecutive port stops, things start to blur a little. It gets so that I can’t remember the names of the places we’ve visited, and most times I can’t even remember what day it is.<\/p>\n

Stand-out locations and memorable moments will always stick, but I’m pretty certain that Havre St Pierre will soon be resigned to the also-ran bin of port-stops. Not that there was anything wrong with it; there just wasn’t anything particularly remarkable about it.<\/p>\n

I’m almost ashamed to say that, despite all the effort that the local people had gone to, to provide customised printed leaflets welcoming the good people from the Marco Polo, a man in a big fluffy bear costume to hug passengers as they came ashore, and the entertainments that they’d laid on (one chap was playing an accordian and a young lass was playing her guitar and singing), I spent a good deal of my morning gorging on the free wi-fi in the terminal. When I’d finished, I took a walk, hoping to find that little nugget of uniqueness about the place… and struggled.<\/p>\n

As I say; it’s a nice enough place and the people are extremely friendly, but all I saw, other than the couple of obligatory craft and souvenir shops, was a large church and two or three motels. Large motorbikes were in abundance, and the occasional large American car would swish by, but the only thing that really captured my imagination were the red fire hydrants. The best of Havre St. Pierre, by all accounts, was to be seen on the four boat excursions to the other islands, where Brimham Rocks-type rocks were on show, and several minky whales. Sadly, I wasn’t on escorting duty today, so I can only relay what I’ve heard.<\/p>\n

It’s been a glorious day, and folks seemed happy enough to potter around, listening to the accordianist and spending some money in the gift shops.<\/p>\n

At midday, I returned to the ship to prepare the craft room for this afternoon’s classes. I had enough time to also enjoy a reasonably relaxing lunch.<\/p>\n

This evening, we were treated to the premiere of a brand new show from the show team; ‘Hello Dolly’. I’m not at all familiar with the show (come to think of it, I’m not sure I can think of any shows that I am familar with… it’s not really my thing…), but was surprised at how many of the musical numbers I found I actually knew.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow, we’re due to arrive in the Magdalen Islands, anchored off Cap-aux-Meules. Access to the quayside will be by tender. I’m not on tour again, so I’ll decide on my plan of action for the day when we get there. I may just give it a miss altogether…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
