WORLD FOOD FESTIVAL

Having been told that there wouldn’t be any classes in the Conference Room at all today, on account of every available table on the ship being required for a ‘World Food Festival’, we were quite surprised to see in the program last night, when it was slipped under our cabin door at about 9:30pm, that I was in fact down for a classes this morning. Add to this the fact that clocks went forward again by one hour, the most sensible thing to do was to have an early night and hope that the Conference Room would still have all its tables in the morning.

I’d been telling everybody yesterday that there wouldn’t be any classes today, so it became an interesting exercise in seeing who actually looked at their programme. Fortunately, the turnout was good, so I needn’t have worried.

Between 12 noon and 2pm, Deck 8 was transformed into a World Food Festival. We’d seen this done on the Magellan during the Amazon cruise last year; it was brilliant then, and although there isn’t quite the same amount of space on the Marco Polo, a great deal of effort had gone into making todays lunchtime treat a similar success. There were Indian and Greek Stations in the Reception area, an Italian Station in the Captain’s Club, a Cheese Station in the Columbous Lounge, and British food and deserts in the Bistro. Lots of different staff and crew had been roped into helping out, dressing up and providing a very authentic atmosphere… excellent fun!
