approaching the magellan straits
Today, we’ve been at sea again – just a single sea-day this time around, and not a class day for me, which gave me the opportunity to spend much of the day painting.
I’d made an early start soon after breakfast, but I hadn’t been painting for very long when the cabin steward knocked on the door wanting to come in and clean our room. Since the girl seems to need a good 30-40 minutes, I took my laptop upstairs to the captain’s Club to see how the wi-fi was today.
It was worse than ever – quite rubbish, in fact.
For almost 45 minutes, I sat watching blank screens as nothing managed to load; not a single web page, email program… nothing. After 45 minutes, I’d totally failed to load the blog, so no updates yet again, and I’d also failed to check if there were any emails. Frustrated? Not half…
Tracey joined me in the Captain’s Club, and we headed off to the Bistro for a cup of tea; it being almost lunchtime by then, we stayed around for a bite to eat, after which I finally returned to the cabin to resume painting.
By 5pm, I’d completed four new paintings, all featuring views (and one penguin) from our visit to the Falkland Islands.
After dinner, in the evening, we were approaching the Magellan Straits. We will be picking up the pilot later tonight, and by morning we will be arriving at our first port in Chile, Punta Arenas. Tracey and I are down for tour escorting duty… but more than anything else, I’m really hoping to have some wi-fi, before I go crazy…
