AT SEA – LIVING THE LIFE

Today has been our first full day at sea, and I haven’t had any classes so I’ve been living the life of a punter (sorry… ‘passenger’).

We were up quite late, but still managed to catch breakfast before it finished at 10am, then we went out on deck to look for wildlife. The sea was quite flat (and the deadlights, annoyingly, still closed), so dolphins were easy to spot, and my goodness, there were lots to see. We’ve sailed across these waters many times and rarely seen a thing. Today, there was a relatvely large amount of activity, with dolphins jumping up out of the water all over the place.

At 11:15, we went in to listen to a lecture, which is almost unheard of for me (because I’m usually in the Conference Room giving a class), and then we went to lunch. After lunch, we went to yet another lecture, and then spent some time trying to connect to the ship’s wi-fi (which is brain-numbingly slow and criminally expensive, but when I’m at sea, it’s all there is).

I’m ever so slightly miffed that the deadlights are still closed despite asking about it several times at Reception. I’m assured that they will be opened when the Captain gives the order to the Staff Captain for the Joiner to open them. It doesn’t change the creeping sensation that the cabins on Deck 4, starboard, might just have been forgotten, particularly since I’ve seen cabins on the port side, same deck, with them open (you can see in through the open doors when cabin stewards are cleaning).

Tonight was the first Formal Night. We dressed posh but didn’t go the whole hog, and spent the evening relaxing in the Captain’s Club, reading and relaxing after a whole day of doing nowt (which isn’t something that I’m very good at).
