Puerto Limon, Costa Rica
Today, we arrived in Puerto Limon, in Costa Rica.
Not that it’s been much good to Tracey and myself, who are still confined to our cabin.
The good news is; we only have to stay couped up for 24 hours (as opposed to the 48 hours we’ve experienced in similar circumstances on other ships), which means we can leave the cabin at 6pm (yeeeeeey!).
That’s 24 hours of ‘Star Trek; The Next Generation’ (make it so, number one), an opportunity to improve my high-speed driving skills in ‘Asphalt 8: Airborne’, catch up on some writing and reading, and filling the remaining gaps with Spider Solitaire and ordering food and drink from Room Service. Makes you wonder why anyone ever bothers to leave their cabin at all…
At 6pm, we escaped to freedom, filling our lungs with fresh air and bounding around the top deck like captive lions returned to the wild.
The sun had just set, so it was dark, but that didn’t stop us taking a short walk into Puerto Limon after dinner.
It isn’t dissimilar to any other Caribbean township, although it wasn’t exactly pulsating to the happy sounds of reggae and steel drums. The small park by the port was sporadically lit, and the odd few figures lurking in the shadows didn’t seem too friendly. Small groups gathered on street corners, eating and drinking from roadside vendors, but it seemed very much for the locals, and not for the tourists. Despite all that, we were just happy to be out and about. Since we’re here overnight, until midday tomorrow, we decided to call it a night and take another look at Puerto Limon in the morning.
