Pre-painting rituals

Take a look at how you prepare yourself for painting.

Sometimes, if you’re going through a bit of a bad patch, it may be that your pre-painting rituals – the system of preparation before you settle down to paint, need tuning. This doesn’t mean you have to slaughter a lamb or the family pet in order to create art, it just means acknowledging the pattern of behaviour, the little things we have to do in order to feel comfortable – an important ingredient for success in watercolour!

For me, it’s the systematic cleaning of my palette and brushes (since I’m rather in the habit of not cleaning my brushes at the end of a session, this is probably a good thing).
