Atlantic Crossing Day One

We’re back at sea, which means back to work for me. Today, I had them painting winter trees, in preparation for painting summer trees tomorrow. As we sail the Atlantic, heading for South America, the work doesn’t stop after the last class. From today, my new regime means spending all afternoon in the cabin painting scenes from where we’ve been. Today, I painted a couple of boats in Mindelo Harbour.

By 5 o’clock, I was ready to spend some quality time out on deck at the front of the ship, watching the flying fish and gazing out to sea, mesmerised by just how vast the ocean is, and just how much of a ‘desert’ it is. It can certainly feel very humbling, and reflective; if there was a zombie apocalypse back home, we’d never know it.
