Friday – Much Calmer

It’s Friday, and we’re back out to sea. The good news is; things are now much calmer.

Yesterday morning, Tracey and I took a walk into La Caruna. We couldn’t go far because we only had until lunchtime, so we strolled around the harbour to a little fort there, which, despite its small size, turned out to be quite interesting. For 2 euros each, we wandered through the old buildings and terraces, browsed the museum, and enjoyed the views out across the harbour to where giant waves crashed against the distant, rocky shoreline.

Our route back to the ship took us through the old town, where there were several interesting old churches and qaint narrrow streets. It was still cold, but the rain and hail held off, making us warm to the place a little more than we had done the previous day.

We were back on the ship by 12 o’clock, battling with the hordes of passengers in Marco’s Bistro who had just returned from excursions, trying to get some lunch before the afternoon’s classes. It was so busy that we decided to set the craft room out in preparation for the workshop, and try again later; unfortunately, it was stilll extremely busy, and all we managed was soup and a roll before having to get back to work.

Later, after dinner, we spent all evening in Scott’s Bar, partaking in the quiz, watching the ‘Divas’ cabaret, and chatting to a lovely couple from Workshop for whom this is their first experience of cruising.

Today, the sea is much calmer, and there’s a positive buzz around the ship. The sun has shown its face, briefly, and one or two folks (us included) have even taken a wander out on deck. The wind is still bracing, but the rocking has almost ceased altogether, so everyone is hopeful of even further improvement in the weather (once people start taking to the decks, it’ll make the lounges a little less crowded).

We’re also hopeful that, with the improvement in conditions, that our portholes will be uncovered sometime soon; no windows means no daylight, and the cabin feels slightly claustrophobic, and not so pleasant to sit and work in.

I can’t believe it’s Friday already. Tenerife is only one more day’s sailing away, and the New Year is just around the corner… how time flies!

By the way…

For those interested in photos from the trip, you’ll be pleased to know that Tracey has started updating her blog (she has a bit of catch-up to do, but posts and photos will start to appear shortly)
