Thursday – Full Steam Ahead

My classes re-started yesterday; it was good to be back, and working again, and I think everyone was of the same mind. I had them painting stone walls and sheep – and today, we’ll be painting an iguana!

The ship is a-rockin’ and a-rollin’, and the seas are getting steadily rougher as we approach the Bay of Biscay again. We’re expecting an announcement of doom and gloom from the Captain any time today; to expect a lot of movement, and to hold on to the handrails. One knock-on of rough weather always seems to be that the lifts give up the ghost, much to the annoyance of some people who rely on them to navigate from deck to deck. I had heard that someone had managed to drop a walking stick down between the gap of one lift, but inoperable lifts do seem to be a common symptom of rocky seas. They’re not out of action for long, but they do seem troublesome, nevertheless.

With the onset of bad weather, they’ve brought the last formal night forward to tonight. I’m not sure how I feel about that (or maybe I am); I’m not a huge fan of dressing up in bow tie and dinner suit, and with not having Tracey here with me, it seems a particularly pointless exercise; I may just opt out of it altogether, and settle for a quiet night in.

So, it’s back to business for me; I’m painting and working (admin and online studenting) in the mornings and teaching in the afternoons. The days pass so much more quickly when they’re full of activity. We just have to cross the Bay of Biscay without incident and then we’ll be almost home…. Yaaaaaay!
