UPCOMING CRUISE WORK

I’m very excited to be able to announce my appointment on two up-coming cruises, both on CMV’s new flagship, MV Columbus.

The first trip begins next week, on the 16th of October, when we join the ship at London Tilbury, for a two-week voyage to the Canary Islands. Having been to most of the ports before, we know what to expect; Lanzarote is a big favourite of mine, with its many volcanoes, and I’m hoping we get another chance to commune with the barbary apes on the Rock of Gibraltar. I thought it would be a great opportunity to get people painting them in the class – I’ll let you know how that goes… (it could go one of two ways…)

One of the most exciting things about this trip, though, is the fact that we get to sail on the Columbus for the first time. It’s always fun exploring a new, unfamiliar ship, and this one looks a cracker…

The other cruise that I’ve been confirmed on is in the new year. The Columbus will be embarking upon its World Tour on the 6th of January, and I’m very pleased to have been asked to run workshops on the first leg of its journey, from London Tilbury to Sydney in Australia.

The trip will be featuring such wonders as the Panama Canal, French Polynesia, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Tonga and New Zealand, before arriving in Sydney Harbour on the 25th of February. Apart from the Panama Canal, which I’ve been through a couple of times before, these are all new locations for me, so you can imagine how chuffed I was to be offered this rare opportunity to visit them, and paint them.

Naturally, I will be trying my hardest to maintain a daily journal during both trips, internet-willing. The first trip shouldn’t present too many problems, since I can use my own phone data in most of the locations. The second trip includes many sea days as it crosses the Atlantic and Pacific oceans – there are no fewer than nine consecutive sea-days between leaving the Panama Canal and arriving in Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia, during which I’m guessing the internet is going to be a little flakey…

Bring ’em on…
