Wednesday – All Aboard

After a relatively uneventful journey South, we are safely on board the Marco Polo.

I say uneventful; the traffic mostly moved well. There was one slightly worrying moment when Tracey noticed that the M25, at the point we would be joining it from the M11, was closed both ways due to a lorry fire, causing massive delays in both directions. With Tilbury but a stones throw away from our location, we decided to make an executive decision and cut the corner off, via Brentwood. I’m still convinced that my satnav underwent a full-frontal lobotomy recently, when I updated it, and hasn’t filled me with much confidence since. ‘Jane’ took us down a narrow, windy lane that was so narrow it knocked the wing mirror askew, and notices of a low bridge gave us a distinctly uneasy feeling… that satnav is going to have to go… (it did get us here, though).

Transferring the mountains of art materials on board is a bit of a pain at the best of times. Today, it was made even more of a trial when security insisted upon passing everything through the scannner (which, basically, meant deconstructing the mountain of packages tied neatly to my sack-barrow to squeeze it all through, then reconstruct it the other end).

Having managed to tip the barrow over only once, having got through security, we finally got everything on board and safely in the Conference Room, ready for the first of my workshops tomorrow.

This is a quick post, while we’re still in dock, waiting for the lifeboat drill due anytime now, followed by sailaway at 3:30pm. Copenhhagen here we come…
